Badgers face Hawkeyes in first round

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-16, 4-14 B1G) has secured the 14th seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 5. The Badgers will have a rematch against the 11th-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes (20-9, 10-8 B1G). The game is set to tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed on Peacock, as well as broadcast on 1070 The Game and the iHeartRadio app.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Iowa Hawkeyes:

1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: The Badgers hold a 13-16 overall record and a 4-14 mark in conference play heading into the Big Ten Tournament. They found success against Rutgers, Michigan, Penn State and Northwestern. Star forward Serah Williams had an outstanding regular season earning 14 double-doubles while averaging 19.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She tallied her 200th career block and had a season-high 38 points against Butler.

2. BIG TEN TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Badgers have played in the Big Ten Tournament since 1982. Their best finishes came in the years 2002, 2009 and 2010 when the team qualified for the semifinals. In the 2023-24 season, they entered as the 10th seed and made it to the second round before they were brought down by 7-seeded Penn State in a 56-80 loss.

3. SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES: Iowa concluded the regular season with a 20-9 overall record and a 10-8 mark in conference play. As the 11th seed in the tournament, the Hawkeyes capped off their season with an 81-66 home victory over Wisconsin. The team averages 74.6 points and 38.4 rebounds per game. Iowa's offense is led by Lucy Olsen, who scores 18.0 points per game and has recorded 129 assists. Olsen is supported by leading rebounder Sydney Affolter, who pulls down 8.1 boards per game.

4. TOURNAMENT HISTORY WITH IOWA: Wisconsin has met Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament only once before. The two teams faced off in 1982 in the first round of the tournament. Wisconsin walked away with a 78-64 win and made it to the quarterfinals before they were defeated by Northwestern.

5. LOOKING AHEAD: If the Badgers prevail, they will face the sixth-seeded Michigan State Spartans on March 6 at approximately 8:00 p.m. (CT) on Big Ten Network.
