Big Ten Tournament berth on the line

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (11-14, 2-12 B1G) remains on the road as they travel to face the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-14, 1-12 BIG). The teams will meet on Sunday, Feb 16 at 12:00 p.m. (CT). The matchup can be streamed on B1G+ and broadcast on 1070 AM and the iHeartRadio app.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Nittany Lions:

1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON:Ā The Badgers hold an 11-14 overall record and a 2-12 mark in conference play, having battled some of the toughest opponents in college basketball.Ā Serah WilliamsĀ continues to shine, averaging 19.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Williams is one of just two players nationally with at least 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game (alongside LSU's Morrow). She has scored 20+ points in six of her last nine games and is only the second Badger since 2000 to average 18+ points per game, joining Jolene Anderson. Williams recorded her 200th career block, becoming just the second Badger to achieve the milestone, alongside Michelle Lowman.Ā Ā

Sitting 15th in the Big Ten, Wisconsin has yet to secure a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. Their upcoming game against Penn State is crucial, with the Nittany Lions at 18th in the standings.

2.Ā  LAST TIME OUT:Ā The Badgers were brought down by the No. 22 Michigan State Spartans 91-71. Williams led the Badgers with 23 points, marking her 23rd game this season in double figures and her 12th game with 20 or more points. She also recorded her 12th double-double of the season.Ā The Badgers held a 32-26 rebounding edge over the Spartans. As a team, WisconsinĀ shot 49.1% (28-57) from the field, 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc, and 66.7% (10-15) from the free-throw line.Ā

3. SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS:Ā Penn State enters this game with a 10-15 overall record. They have struggled in conference play, sitting at 1-13Ā only besting Ohio State. The Lady Lions are coming off a 67-55 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini. Under the leadership of head coach Carolyn Kieger, Penn State is averaging 72.8 points per game and pulling down 37.9 rebounds per game.

4. HISTORY WITH PENN STATE:Ā Wisconsin last met the Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Tournament where they were overpowered 56-80. However, in regular season play, Wisconsin bested Penn State in Madison 69-64. The Badgers trail in the all-time series 18-36.

5. LOOKING AHEAD:Ā The Badgers will return home to welcome Northwestern on Sunday, Feb 23. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT) inside the Kohl Center.
