The Badgers open NCAA Tournament play against Western Michigan
Madison, Wis.- The Wisconsin women's soccer team is set to host Western Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. (CT) at the McClimon Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Broncos.
1. SEASON RECAP
Wisconsin enters the NCAA Tournament with a 13-5-2 overall record (7-4-2 B1G). The Badgers are averaging 1.50 goals per game on 12.7 shots per match, led by midfielder Erin Connolly, who has netted seven goals this season- tied for fourth-most in the Big Ten.
Supporting the attack are forwards Brooke Allen and Adee Boer, each contributing six goals and finding the back of the net during the Big Ten Tournament.
On the defensive end goalkeeper Drew Stover has collected 61 saves and 10 shutouts. Stover has played 1800 minutes which is good for second in conference and is posting a 78.2 save percentage. She tied her career high in saves against No. 9 UCLA (Oct. 9) and matched a program record with four consecutive clean sheets from Oct. 4–16.
2. SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
The Badgers and Broncos have met four times in program history, with Wisconsin holding a 3-0-1 advantage. The most recent matchup came in the 2024 season, ending in a 1-1 draw.
Western Michigan is led by head coach Lewis Robinson, who is in his fourth season. The Broncos earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning their second straight MAC Championship. WMU posts a 16-3-1 record on the season, the most victories in program history.
Abby Smothers leads the Broncos in goals with 10. Smothers has taken 44 shots with 24 on target earning a .545 shot on goal percentage. Goalie Reagan Sulaver has allowed 11 goals with 52 saves to earn a save percentage of .828.
3. TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
This marks Wisconsin's third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 26th overall. Last season, the Badgers reached the Sweet 16, defeating Maine and Virginia before falling to top-seeded USC.
