COLLEGE PARK, M.D. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-14, 6-11 B1G) was outlasted by the Maryland Terrapins (17-11, 9-8 B1G), 79-63, Thursday, Feb. 29 inside the Xfinity Center. Three players scored in double digits, including Natalie Leuzinger (16 ), Ronnie Porter (15) and Serah Williams (14), but injuries riddled the Badgers as they lost their final regular-season road game of the year. 

Williams struck first for the Badgers, snagging a bucket over the double team, but the Maryland offense was hot early on. Soon after, Sania Copeland exited with injury and the Terrapins capitalized, heading on a 10-0 run to open the ball game up. D'Yanis Jimenez eventually broke through the Maryland defense to score at the rim and a steal from Brooke Schramek broke up Maryland's fast break which allowed Porter to score the second-consecutive bucket for the Badgers. This translated into a 6-0 run for Wisconsin to trim Maryland's lead down to four, but the quarter ended with the Terrapins leading 17-8. 

The second quarter was dominated by Maryland, as it outscored Wisconsin, 22-11. Jimenez scored Wisconsin's first bucket of the quarter but quickly ended up on the bench with injury alongside Copeland. Williams recorded a layup to put a stop to a short Maryland run, but the Terrapins responded with nine-straight points to take a commanding 31-12 lead. The score at the half was Maryland 39, Wisconsin 19. 

Wisconsin came out in the second half with an intensity not shown in the 20 minutes prior. UW went on an early 12-1 run and played much stronger on the defensive end. Wisconsin shifted to a zone which put a lot of pressure on the Maryland offense and resulted in a lot of stops. Leuzinger had a really strong ten minutes, contributing eight points this quarter and going 2-2 from 3FG while Schramek added seven. Wisconsin trimmed Maryland's lead down to single digits and finished trailing 52-44. 

 The Badgers came out strong down the stretch, but The Terrapins ended up pulling away. Tessa Grady knocked in a three to hopefully give the Badgers a late-game push, but they eventually lost, 79-62.

Wisconsin shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field and 25.0% (5-20) from 3-point range. The Badgers shot 90.9% (10-11) from the free-throw line. Wisconsin led in rebounds 39 to 34 and assists, 18 to nine. UW led in points in the paint, 32 to 26. 

Maryland shot 44.6% (25-56) from field-goal range, including 46.7% (7-15) from behind the arc. The Terrapins were 81.5% (22-27) from the charity stripe. Maryland was led in scoring by Jakia Brown-Turner, who recorded 18 points (7-12 FG, 2-3 3FG, 2-3 FT) and brought in 10 rebounds. 

Notes to know

• Serah Williams recorded her 14th-straight double-double, notching 14 points and 10 rebounds. She is one double-double away from Megan Gustaffson's Big Ten record of 15 consecutive double-doubles set in the 2018-19 season.

• With one block on the night, Williams tied Janetta Johnson for fifth all-time in program blocks with 130.

• Three Badgers, Leuzinger, Porter and Williams, all scored in double digits. 

• Wisconsin went 10-11 from the charity stripe.

• The Badgers outscored the Terrapins 32 to 26 in the paint.
