Box Score MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-13, 6-9 B1G) lost to the Purdue Boilermakers (12-15, 5-11 B1G) on Sunday, Feb. 25 inside the Kohl Center.
The Badgers got off to a hot start, shooting 64.3% in the first quarter. Natalie Leuzinger got the game going with a corner three and really set the tone for the ten minutes to come. Serah Williams followed up with two-consecutive layups and Ronnie Porter chipped in a shot, her first of seven points this quarter. Wisconsin landed back-to-back threes, courtesy of Sania Copeland and Porter, but Purdue's offense continued to find ways to respond. The game was tied 21-all at the conclusion of the quarter after a strong offensive showing for both teams.
The second quarter did not have the same scoring intensity as in the first, with Wisconsin only draining one shot in the first six minutes, a driving layup from Brooke Schramek. As the half began to come to a close, the scoring was ramped up a bit by the Badgers, with Leuzinger delivering a layup for her seventh point of the game and Schramek sinking a triple. Purdue ultimately outscored Wisconsin this quarter, 13-10 and led 34-31 heading into the locker room.
Williams got the second-half scoring underway with a hook shot beneath the rim and was followed by Leuzinger whose fourth three of the game landed her a career-high in points with 16. UW went on a 4:18 scoring drought and ended up trailing 57-44 with one quarter to go. The fourth quarter looked similar to the third, with Purdue continuing to make shots and Wisconsin struggling to respond. Purdue walked away from the Kohl Center with a win, 79-55.
Wisconsin shot 40.7% (22-54) from the field and 36.4% (8-22) from 3-point range. The Badgers shot 37.5% (3-8) from the free-throw line.
Purdue shot 50.0% (29-58) from field-goal range, including 50% (7-14) from behind the arc. The Boilermakers were 87.5% (14-16) from the charity stripe. Purdue was led in scoring by Abbey Ellis, who dropped 21 points (8-13 FG, 1-2 3FG, 4-4 FT).
