Wisconsin hosts Rutgers for first Big Ten matchup of the season

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (7-2, 0-0 B1G) will open Big Ten play this Sunday, Dec. 8, against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-3, 0-0 B1G). Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. CT at the Kohl Center.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Scarlet Knights:

1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: With a 7-2 start on the season the Badgers have had the best season start since the 2018-19 season and their strongest start under head coach Marisa Moseley. A win over Rutgers on Sunday would give Wisconsin it's best 10-game start since an 8-2 start during the 2009-10 campaign.

2. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin traveled to Mexico to play in the Cancun Challenge, winning the tournament by a point differential, posting a 2-1 record. After a tough opening loss to San Diego State, the Badgers bounced back with wins against Providence and VCU to claim the tournament title. Carter McCray and Serah Williams earned All-Tournament honors, with McCray being named MVP.

3. HISTORY WITH RUTGERS: The Badgers last met the Scarlet Knights in the 2023-24 campaign in New Jersey taking home a 61-43 victory. The Badgers have a three-game win streak despite Rutgers leading the all time record 10-6.

4. SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS: Led by head coach Coquese Washington, Rutgers is off to a 5-3 start. The Scarlet Knights average 74.4 points per game while shooting 43.5% from the field and grabbing 41 rebounds per game.

The scoring leader for the Scarlet Knights is Destiny Adams. She is averaging 19.3 points per game.

5. LOOKING AHEAD: The Badgers hit the road to face the Butler Bulldogs in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
