Wisconsin looks to extend perfect home record

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (10-3, 1-1 B1G) continues conference play this New Year's Eve as they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-1, 1-1 B1G) in a thrilling border battle. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. (CT), with the game available for streaming on B1G+.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers faceĀ the Golden Gophers:

1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON:Ā Wisconsin enters the match up with an undefeated 7-0 home record—its best start at home since the 2006-07 season. The Badgers will look to extend that perfect home stretch as they face Minnesota.

2. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers suffered an 83-52 setback in their last outing at Indiana. Despite a strong opening quarter, where they closed on an 11-0 run, Wisconsin struggled to maintain momentum. Serah Williams led the team with 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting and tallied 11 rebounds. She added two blocks and earned her ninth double-double of the season. As a team, the Badgers shot 34.6% (18-52) from the field, 41.6% (5-12) from beyond the arc, and 68.8% (11-16) from the free-throw line.

3. HISTORY WITH MINNESOTA: The Badgers have had the upper hand in their recent meetings with the Golden Gophers, winning the last four contests, including a 67-56 victory in Minneapolis during the 2023-24 season. While Wisconsin trails 40-47 in the all-time series, they have been on a strong run against Minnesota in recent years.

4. SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS:Ā Under the leadership of head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, Minnesota enters the game with a 13-1 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Big Ten play. The Gophers are coming off a dominant 90-54 win over Penn State. Minnesota boasts a high-powered offense, averaging 78.5 points per game, and they are also strong on the boards, pulling down 41.1 rebounds per game. Defensively, the Gophers have been stifling, holding opponents to just 34.7% shooting from the field.

5. LOOKING AHEAD:Ā After Sunday's contest, the Badgers will hit the road for a two-game West Coast swing when they play at Big Ten newcomers Oregon on Saturday, January 4 and Washington on Jan. 7.
