MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (9-2, 1-0 B1G) will host the UAlbany Great Danes (10-1, 0-0 America East) on Friday, Dec. 20 with tip-off set for 11 a.m. The game will also serve as Education Day, where local students will have the opportunity to enjoy the game while participating in interactive learning experiences.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Great Danes:
1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: Wisconsin is off to an impressive start this season, maintaining a perfect 6-0 home record for the first time since 2019-20. Their 9-2 overall record marks the best start for the program since the 2009-10 season.
2. LAST TIME OUT: Serah Williams led the Badgers to a 71-64 double overtime win against the Butler Bulldogs. She tallied a new career-high of 36 points going 13 for 26. Her performance marked her fifth game this season with 20 or more points and her seventh double-double of the year.
Natalie Leuzinger was a key piece in the overtime periods hitting two free throws with under 10 seconds left to seal the win for Wisconsin. As a team, the Badgers shot 43.0% (26-60) from the field, and 61% (17-28) from the free-throw line. On the defensive end, Wisconsin limited Butler to just 35.0% (23-66) shooting from the field and 26% (7-27) clip from long range.
3. HISTORY WITH ALBANY: The Badgers have met the Great Danes only once before on December 10, 2006. Wisconsin came away victorious after a dominant 71-46 win.
4. SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES: UAlbany is off to a solid 10-1 start under head coach Colleen Mullen. The Great Danes are averaging 68.4 points and 34.0 rebounds per game while maintaining a strong defensive presence, holding opponents to just 39.5% shooting from the field.
5. LOOKING AHEAD: The Badgers are set for an epic match up as they travel to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers in their second Big Ten game of the season. The two teams will meet on Saturday, Dec. 28, with tip-off at 1:00 p.m. (CT) with the game airing on Big Ten Network.
