Here are five things to know before the Badgers matchup against Jackrabbits.
1. LEUZINGER TAKING CHARGE: With Serah Williams dealing with an injury sustained against Milwaukee, it was up to the rest of the Badger roster to take over the scoring and find ways to produce without the star sophomore. Natalie Leuzinger accepted the challenge, and led the Badgers in scoring with 13 points (4-10 FG, 3-9 3FG, 2-4 FT) and tallied two rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals. She set career-highs in points, field-goals made and three-pointers made, and tied her career-high in steals
2. PORTER PLAYING HARD: Ronnie Porter is another Badger new to the starting lineup this season, but is emerging as a powerhouse player for the Badgers. Porter also had a career night against Western Illinois, notching her first-ever double-double, with a career-high in points with 12 (5-11 FG, 1-6 3FG, 1-4 FT), field goals made, rebounds (13) and steals (5). Despite being the shortest player on the court, she crashed the boards and led the game in rebounds.Â
3. GRADY'S STELLAR SHOOTING: Tessa Grady played for three minutes against Western Illinois, but made every minute count. The freshmen drained back-to-back-to-back threes as her first collegiate points, and was an exciting spark to close out the game. The Dublin, Ohio native also added two rebounds and one block in her short, yet impactful stint on the court.Â
4. STARTING STRONG: With back-to-back wins over Milwaukee and Western Illinois last week, the Badgers began their season 2-0 for the first time since the 2019-20. It is the first time occurring under Coach Moseley, and the team will look to add to these ongoing wins as they take on South Dakota State.Â
5. SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS: Wisconsin will South Dakota State for the fourth time in program history. Last season, the team finished first in the Summit League, accruing an 18-0 conference record and 29-6 overall record. South Dakota State began its 2023-24 season with a matchup with Arkansas State, and won 55-42 last Monday, Nov. 6. The Jackrabbits were led by junior Paige Meyer, who accumulated 18 points (5-12 FG, 2-2 3FG, 6-10 FT) and added two rebounds, four assists and five steals. The Albany, Minn earned All-Summit League Second Team Honors the last two seasons, and will demand the attention of the Badgers' defense.
