MADISON, Wis. — The Badgers (4-8, 0-2 B1G) travel to Green Bay to face the Phoenix (5-3, 1-1 Horizon) on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Tip time is 7 p.m. from the Kress Center and the game can be streamed on ESPN+ or listened to on WIBA.Â
Here are five things to know before Wisconsin plays against Green Bay:Â
1. BADGERS BACK ON TRACK: Following a seven-game losing streak, Wisconsin got back in the win category as it secured a 72-64 victory against St. Thomas. The Badgers trailed for much of the game, but instead of conceding and handing the Tommies a win, UW fought hard until the very end and was able to defend its home court. It was a full team effort, and Wisconsin got contributions from individuals who typically don't see much playing time. Lily Krahn and Natalie Leuzinger combined for 43 minutes played and 11 points, and their presence on the court seemed to bring a spark to the Badgers.Â
2. SCHRAMEK'S SEASON HIGHS: Brooke Schramek averaged 9.4 points in the first 11 games of the season, but she was the Badgers' leading scorer against the Tommies. She notched 18 points (4-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 9-10FT) and her nine-made free throws was a career high for the junior. Schramek scored seven points in each of the two games leading up to St. Thomas, but finishing in double-digits was critical to the Badgers' success Sunday.Â
3. POSPISILOVA DROPS 14: Julie Pospisilova had a bit of a tough time scoring following her career night against Florida State on Dec. 1, but she looked like her typical self against the Tommies. The senior scored 14 points (6-13 FG, 0-3 3FG, 2-2 FT) and added a team-high three rebounds along with three assists. She was one of the five upperclassmen that had great success against St. Thomas. In total, the juniors and seniors accounted for 56 of Wisconsin's 72 points, and clearly showed off their years of experience at the collegiate level.Â
4. CONTROLLING THE BALL: Heading into the game against St. Thomas, Wisconsin was averaging 17.0 turnovers per game. The Badgers committed just seven against the Tommies, marking the first time in the 2022-23 season where they had fewer than 11 in a game. UW forced 17 St. Thomas turnovers, and scored 20 points off of them.Â
5. SCOUTING THE PHOENIX: Wisconsin will play against Green Bay in an in-state rivalry matchup, and the Badgers lead the series all time 20-16. However, the Phoenix are 8-2 in the last 10 matchups, which includes victories in each of the last three games. In the 2021-22 season, Green Bay defeated Wisconsin on the road, 63-53, and knocked down nine 3-pointers and forced 20 turnovers. This season, senior Sydney Levy leads her team in points with 10.1, while Hailey Oskey leads in rebounds with 5.4 and steals with 1.6 per game.Â
