MADISON, Wis. — The Badgers return home to host Penn State on Beaver Dam Community Day at the Kohl Center. Tip time is 2 p.m. live on B1G+.Â
Here are five things to look for at Sunday's game.
1. BEAVER DAM COMMUNITY DAY: Sunday's matchup serves as the Beaver Dam Community Day at the Kohl Center. Beaver Dam, the hometown of junior Tara Stauffacher and freshman Maty Wilke, will be honored for their support and contributions to the Wisconsin Athletics community. All residents of Beaver Dam will enjoy $2 general admission tickets. Must purchase a minimum of 4 tickets. Purchase your tickets in advance by clicking here.
2. BACK IN RHYTHM: After missing the most of two games due to lower-leg injury, junior Sydney Hilliard is back on track the last two games. The 5-foot-11 guard is averaging 13.0 points per game while shooting 55% (11-20) from the field. She is also shooting 80% (4-5) from the free-throw line. She adds 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game over the span. Hilliard has also led the Badgers in steals in seven games this season, tying for second in the Big Ten with 2.0 steals per game. The 5-foot-11 guard had a season-high five steals vs. NJIT on Nov. 14 and has two-or-more takeaways in nine games.
3. LOOKING BEYON:D Katie Nelson has been selected to participate in the WBCA "So You Want to be a Coach" program. Each student-athlete will participate in a two-day workshop on March 31 and April 1 during the WBCA Convention in Minneapolis. The "So" program, in partnership with WeCOACH, increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
4. SCOUTING PENN STATE: The 9-7 Lady Lions sit seventh in the Big Ten currently with a record of 3-3. Boasting wins over Rutgers, Illinois and Northwestern, Penn State sits in the middle of the pack in most stat categories, but is last in points allowed per game. Coming off of a struggling game offensively, Wisconsin will look to attack the Penn State defense while still trying to control its leading scorers. Junior Makenna Marissa serves as the biggest treat to Wisconsin offensively as the guard averages 21.4 points per game, good for second in the conference.
