MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team opens up the 26th Big Ten Tournament, beginning on Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Badgers (13-17, 4-14 Big Ten) earned the No. 13-seed in the tournament, taking on No. 12-seed Penn State (12-17. 5-13 Big Ten) on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. CT. The winner will advance to the second round to take on No. 5-seed Ohio State (14-13, 10-8 Big Ten) on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT.

1. BIG TEN HONORS: For the first time since 2014, the Wisconsin women's basketball team had a player named second team All-Big Ten, the conference announced on Monday. Senior Marsha Howard earned second-team All-Big Ten honors by conference media while being named honorable mention All-Big Ten by league coaches. In addition, freshman Imani Lewis earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors by the media. Howard earns her second-straight All-Big Ten honor after being named honorable mention all-conference in 2018. Lewis is the first Badger freshman to earn All-Big Ten honors since Jolene Anderson earned third-team honors in 2005

2. LAST TIME OUT: Down by as many as 26 points in the third quarter, the Badgers showed heart as they rallied back within single digits (56-47), outscoring the Wolverines, 19-10, in the final quarter. But it would ultimately be too late as the Badgers fell to Michigan, 59-49, in Ann Arbor in the final regular season game.

3. TOUGH DEFENSE: UW has played tough defense all season long, but has turned it up in Big Ten play. The Badgers are ranked third in the Big Ten in blocked shots during Big Ten games only with 84 total and averaging 5.4 per game. UW is also tied for third in the Big Ten with 139 steals during Big Ten play, averaging 7.7 per game.

4. BIG TEN TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Badgers have played in the first round of the Big Ten tournament the past eight years, including all five years since Maryland and Rutgers joined the league. Of the eight years, UW moved on twice as well as lost in overtime twice. Wisconsin has never made it to the finals, but has made the semifinals three times: 2002, 2009 and 2010.

5. SO WE MEET AGAIN: The Badgers and Lady Lions played each other twice this season. Penn State took both games in January at Penn State (71-64) and at the Kohl Center (65-59). PSU now leads the all-time series 33-14 over Wisconsin.
