Game Notes vs. Maryland
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin (7-9, 0-3) wraps up its tough Big Ten-opening stretch, playing its third ranked team in four games. The Badgers host No. 13 Maryland (14-2, 3-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the Kohl.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers fell to 0-3 in the Big Ten after losing to No. 22 Michigan, 80-57, on Thursday night in the Kohl Center. UW improved on offense against the Wolverines, shooting 40.8 percent (20-49) from the field, the team's best shooting percentage in the last four games.
2. FULL COURT: Sophomore Courtney Fredrickson scored a team-high 16 points against Michigan, her fifth straight game in double figures. The 6-2 forward is averaging 11.6 points per game over the span. On the season, Fredrickson ranks third on the team with 9.2 points per game.
3. BLOCKS ON BLOCKS: Sophomore Abby Laszewski had a career-high four blocks against Michigan, playing a career-high 32 minutes. The 6-3 post ranks sixth in the Big Ten, shooting 59.1 percent (53-88) from the field for the season. She is the ninth most-improved scorer in the Big Ten this season, upping her average by 6.6 points per game.
4. DEFENSIVE STAND: The Badgers rank fourth in Big Ten-only games, allowing opponents to average 64.3 points per game. UW held Iowa to a season-low 56 points while Purdue scored 57 points.
Opponents are shooting 41.3 percent from the field, including just 27.7 percent from 3-point range, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten. UW held Iowa a season-low 37.3 percent (19-51) from the field while Purdue hit 36.2 percent (21-58). Michigan shot just 20 percent (3-15) from 3-point range. The Badgers held Katelynn Flaherty to 0-for-6 from deep.
5. SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS: The Terrapins come to Madison looking to extend their 12-game win streak. The Terrapins beat No. 18/17 Iowa, 80-64, Thursday night in College Park. Maryland won the first quarter, 31-17 and never looked back, forcing the Hawkeyes into a season-high 23 turnovers. Kaila Charles led the way with 24 points, 11 rebounds. Blair Watson added 13 points and Channise Lewis scored 11 with eight assists and five steals.
