BADGERS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON ON THE ROAD
W
isconsin (7-19, 3-13 Big Ten) wraps up the regular season with two road games this week. The Badgers travel to No. 6 Maryland (25-3, 14-2) on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. CT tip from the XFinity Center in College Park, Maryland.
The regular season concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT tip at Purdue (17-10, 8-8) from Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.  
    The final two games will decide the seeding for the 2016 Big Ten Tournament, which will be held on March 2-6 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

NOTES TO KNOW

1. PROTECTING THE BALL - Wisconsin averaged just 10.5 turnovers per game last week, tallying 10 giveaways vs. Illinois on Feb. 17 and 11 turnovers against Northwestern on Saturday. The Badgers tie for second in the Big Ten in conference-only games with 12.6 giveaways per game, which would rank second on the UW season record list.
2. STRUGGLING ON OFFENSE - The Badgers are struggling on offense the last three games, averaging just 55.3 points per game over the stretch. Wisconsin has struggled to put together complete games this season, outscoring opponents in only 37 of 104 quarters this season.
3. WHYTE OUT -
Senior Dakota Whyte scored a career-high 31 points against Illinois on Feb. 17, eight points better than her previous best of 23 points set against Penn State on Jan. 10. The 5-8 guard shot career bests of 11-of-20 from the field. She also tied her career best with five 3-pointers while attempting a career-high 11 triples. Whyte added five rebounds, two assists and three steals while recording only one turnover in 39 minutes of play.
4. QUARTER PROBLEMS - The Badgers were outscored by Illinois, 25-7 in the second quarter on Feb. 17, marking the 13th time this season that UW has been outscored by 10-or-more points in a period. UW has been outscored by 10-plus points four times in the first period, five times in the second period, three times in the third period, and once in the fourth period.
5. CLOSE GAMES - In 10 losses this season, UW has been within single digits in the last quarter of play. The Badgers have been within five points in the final period in five games, including Feb. 14's game at Indiana.
6. LINE LABORS -
Wisconsin has struggled from the free throw line this season, ranking 14th in the Big Ten at 67 percent (266-of-397). UW improves slightly in Big Ten games, shooting 67.9 percent (150-of-221) for 13th in the league.
UW shot just 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from the free throw line against the Illini on Feb. 17, its third-lowest percentage of the season.
7. STRUGGLING FROM DEEP - After shooting 36-percent-or-better from 3-point range in four of their previous six games, the Badgers have struggled from deep the last three games. Wisconsin is shooting 25.6 percent (11-of-43) from behind the arc over the stretch.

NOTES VS. NORTHWESTERN
NU 71, UW 53 | Kohl Center | Feb. 20, 2016

The senior pair of Michala Johnson and Nicole Bauman contributed 13 points apiece in an attempt to push the Badgers past Northwestern, but the effort wasn't enough as Wisconsin fell, 71-53, in its final home game of the season.
- Wisconsin battled the Wildcats to a six-point game heading into halftime, as the Badgers trailed, 33-27 at the break.
- NU outscored Wisconsin 19-11 in the third quarter, increasing the gap to 14 points (52-38) at the end of the third period. The Badgers continued to fight in the fourth quarter, but were outscored 19-15, as the Wildcats ended the game with an 18-point margin over UW.
- Bauman and Johnson were the only Badgers in double figures as seniors Dakota Whyte and Tessa Cichy contributed eight and seven points, respectively.
- Johnson led the Badgers in rebounds with nine while Avyanna Young pulled down six and Whyte grabbed five boards. Northwestern outrebounded Wisconsin 39-30 as two players pulled down double-figure boards. The Wildcats had 13 offensive boards, scoring 21 second-chance points.
- UW shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field, including 25 percent (2-of-8) from 3-point range. Northwestern hit 46.6 percent (27-of-58) of its shots but just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from deep.
- The Wildcats also scored well from the free-throw line, hitting 87.5 percent (14-of-16) while Wisconsin shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the line.

OH MICKEY, SHE'S SO FINE!
Senior Michala Johnson's streak of three-straight double-doubles came to an end against Illinois on Feb. 17 as she had just six points and one rebound. The 6-3 forward got back on track against Northwestern on Saturday, sharing team-high honors with 13 points while just missing a double-double with nine rebounds.
    Johnson had 19 points and a season-high 13 rebounds against Purdue on Feb. 8. At Michigan on Feb. 11, Johnson had 15 points and tied her season high with 13 rebounds. She completed her week by tallying a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds at Indiana on Feb. 14, marking the first time in her career with three straight double-doubles.
    Johnson has 11 double-doubles in her career and has 10-plus rebounds in 10 games.
    Johnson has scored in double figures 18 times this season, leading the team in scoring in five games and in rebounding in 12 games. She ranks third on the team with 11.3 points per game this season and leads the Badgers with 6.8 rebounds per game, which ties for 12th in the Big Ten. In Big Ten-only games, Johnson averages 11.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
   Wisconsin has four double-doubles this season as senior Nicole Bauman also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds at Nebraska on Jan. 27.

CAREER LIST UPDATES
Senior Michala Johnson is shooting 53.4 percent (366-of-686) from the field for her Badger career, which would go down in the UW record books as the No. 1 best shooting percentage. The current mark is 53.1 percent (741-of-1395) set by Barb Franke (1991-96).
    Senior Nicole Bauman ranks third on the UW career record list with 228 made 3-pointers. She needs six more triples to move into second, currently held by Katie Voigt (1993-98) with 234 treys. Bauman continues to lead the Badger career list in 3-point percentage at .411 (228-of-555). Bauman ranks fifth in career 3-point attempts with 555. She needs three attempts to move into fourth, a position currently held by Stephanie Rich (2002-05) with 558 attempts. Bauman also ranks 19th on the career list with 1,189 points. She needs 41 points to move into 18th, a position held by Morgan Paige (2010-14) with 1,230 points.

I GOT THAT!

  • Redshirt senior Michala Johnson picked up career rebound No. 500 against Northwestern on Saturday. She has 503 boards in her career, including 427 at UW.
  • Senior Dakota Whyte joined the 300 career assist club against Northwestern on Saturday. She has 301 dimes in her fourth season.
     

COUNTING DOWN

  • Senior Nicole Bauman is counting down to 300 career assists, needing two helpers. She also needs 11 points for 1,200 in her career.
  • Senior Dakota Whyte will reach 900 career points in two tallies.


SEASON LIST UPDATES
Senior Nicole Bauman is on track to break the UW season record for free throw percentage, shooting 89.5 percent (51-of-57) from the line. Current record is 88.7 (63-of-71) set by Katie Voigt in 1995-96. Bauman has 68 3-pointers this season, which ranks sixth on the UW season record list. The 5-10 guard had 80 triples in 2014-15, which ranks second.  Bauman's 3-point percentage of .400 (68-of-170) would rank seventh on the UW season-record list. She shot a Badger best 48.8 percent (80-of-164) last season. She is also shooting 41.8 percent (41-of-98) in Big Ten-only games, which would rank fifth all-time. Bauman shot a school record 50.8 percent (61-of-120) last year. Bauman's 41 makes ranks third on the UW conference season list.
    As a team, Wisconsin is averaging 5.5 3-pointers per game, which would rank seventh all time. The Badgers' 3-point percentage of .356 would be the second-best all time.
    UW has just 374 turnovers this season, needing to stay below 419 to record the fewest giveaways in a season. The Badgers are also averaging 14.38 turnovers per game, which would rank second all time.

BEST SEASONS OF THEIR CAREERS

  • Senior Nicole Bauman is averaging a season-best 15.5 points per game. She also has a season-high 24 blocks and 41 steals. The guard has taken and made the most free throws of her career (51-of-57).
  • Senior Tessa Cichy has a season-best six blocks.
  • Senior Michala Johnson has a season best 30 blocks.
  • Sophomore Cayla McMorris is averaging a season-best 7.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. She is shooting a season-best 75.9 percent from the free throw line. McMorris has a season-best eight blocks and 13 steals.
  • Senior Dakota Whyte is averaging season bests of 13.1 points and 3.84 assists per game. She is shooting a season-best 35.1 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free-throw line. She also has a season-best six blocks.
