LINCOLN, Neb. -- Turnovers ultimately decided the game for the UW women's basketball team as it fell, 70-63, to No. 22 Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday. The Badgers committed 20 turnovers, which cost them 23 points, compared to the Huskers' 11 giveaways.

The Badgers (8-16 overall, 4-10 Big Ten) got off to a slow start, turning the ball over eight times and committing seven fouls, as Nebraska ran out to a 23-10 lead midway through the first half. However, Wisconsin cut that deficit to four with 6:47 left in the half after slowing down Nebraska's offense with a zone defense and going on a 10-1 run. Nicole Bauman and Dakota Whyte accounted for all 10 points during the streak.
UW fought all the way back and held a 39-37 advantage early in the second half, but a 13-0 run by the Huskers made the score 50-39 with 12:52 left in the game. The Badgers cut the deficit back down to four with the help of Jacki Gulczynski's 3-pointer.
Nebraska regained momentum and captured a 15-point edge with six minutes left of play, leading 63-48. Wisconsin did not go down without a fight, cutting the deficit to single digits with three minutes left. But UW would get no closer than five in the final minutes as the Huskers held on from the free throw line.
Four Badgers scored double figures in the Big Ten matchup, including Bauman with a team-high 16 points on 7-12 shooting, including 2-3 from behind the arc. Gulczynski posted 15 points going 4-4 on 3-point attempts, Tessa Cichy had 13 and Whyte added 12.
The Cornhuskers outshot UW, making 42.3 percent from the field (27-63) with their top scorer, Tear'a Laudermill, notching 20 points. The Badgers finished shooting 40 percent (24-60) and 42 percent from 3-point range (8-19).
Wisconsin won the battle off the boards, 45-36, behind Malayna Johnson's nine rebounds, and blocked 10 shots. Gulczynski had a game-high four blocks.
The Badgers are back at the Kohl Center on Thursday against No. 5 Maryland at 8 p.m. Wisconsin then closes out the home season on Sunday, honoring the seniors at home against Northwestern on Senior Day at 3 p.m.
