BADGERS HOST THE BULLDOGS

  • The Badgers conclude their two-game homestand with Drake at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before hitting the road for a five-game stretch of away games.
  • The Badgers' best season opening was a 10-0 start in 2008- 09 and the best home opening slate was in 1983-84 when the Badgers started off with an 11-0 record at home.

NOTES TO KNOW

  • In a dominating Saturday afternoon game at the Kohl Center, the Wisconsin women's basketball team marched past Louisiana Tech, 79-65, to begin the regular season. The Badgers (1-0) were paced by strong offensive efforts, as four players scored in double-digits.

  • Senior Dakota Whyte lead the Badgers with 16 points on the night, as the point guard tallied went 5-of-10 from the field and sank all six of her free throw attempts. She also shared game-high honors with four assists.

  • Close behind Whyte was senior Nicole Bauman, who col- lected 14 points for the Badgers, including 10 points in the third period.

  • Returning to the floor after sitting out last season due to injury, senior Michala Johnson made her presence known with 13 points and five rebounds, while only playing 20 minutes of the game.

  • Junior Avyanna Young was the fourth Badger to score in double-digits tonight, as the forward tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.

  • The Badgers were not only hot on offense, but defensively too. Tessa Cichy paved the way with 16 rebounds, as the senior set a new career high, surpassing her old mark of 10 boards.

TEAM EFFORT

  • Wisconsin shot 50.8 percent (31-61) from the field and 52.9 percent (18-34) in the second half. UW held Louisiana Tech to shooting 30.1 percent (22-73) from the field in the game.

  • Wisconsin outscored Louisiana Tech in
    all but the first quarter. UW outscored LA Tech 27-15 in the third period to come back from being behind 36-35 at the half.

  • The Badgers had four players in double figure points. Eight of the nine players who saw action put points on the board.

  • The Badgers outrebounded the Lady Techsters 43-42. Every Badger who saw action in the game brought down at least one board.

  • Wisconsin shot 73.7 (14-19) percent from the free-throw line.


CAREER MARKS

  • Senior G Tessa Cichy pulled down 16 rebounds and set a new career high. Her previous mark of 10 was set on Jan. 6, 2015 against Penn State.

  • Senior Nicole Bauman tied her career high with three blocks. She also tied her career high with five made free throws on five attempts (100 percent).

  • Senior Dakota Whyte led all players with 16 points and set a new career high after shooting a perfect 100 percent (6-6) from the free-throw line.

  • Junior Avyanna Young in her first start for the Badgers put up 12 points and brought down eight rebounds.


KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

  • The 2015-16 Badgers return six lettterwinners and four starters, including its top-three scorers from last season. UW returns 72.2 percent of its scoring and 53.9 percent of its rebounding for the upcoming season.
  • Michala Johnson, a 2014 first-team All- Big Ten pick, was granted a sixth year by the NCAA and will return in 2015-16. The 6-3 forward played in six games last season before tearing her ACL. She was the Badgers leading scorer (16.6 ppg) and rebounder (7.3 rpg) in 2013-14.
  • Wisconsin returns three of the Big Ten's most improved scorers. Senior Nicole Bauman was the league's most improved scorer in 2014-15, upping her scoring aver- age by 9.2 points per game. Seniors Tessa Cichy and Dakota Whyte also ranked among the top-10 most improved scor- ers. Cichy ranked fourth at plus 7.8 while Whyte ranked 10th at plus 4.9 points per game.
    Junior Nicole Bauman earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors, leading the team and ranking 11th in the conference with 15.1 points per game. She is the sixth player to earn All-Big Ten honors under Coach Kelsey.

    The Badgers drew a season-high attendance of 11,428 vs. Iowa on Feb. 8, which was the 16th best crowd all-time at UW. It was also the largest since drawing 11,369 vs. Iowa on Feb. 28, 2010. The attendance helped Wisconsin average 4,126 fans per game, which ranked seventh in the Big Ten.

    EXHIBITION EXCELLENCE

    - The Wisconsin women's basketball team rolled past the Minnesota State Mavericks on Nov. 8 in an 84-48 home-opening exhibition game at the Kohl Center. Senior Tessa Cichy led all players with 22 points, while fellow senior Dakota Whytewas close behind with 20.

    - Junior Avyanna Young made her Badger debut after sitting out last season due to transfer rules by recording a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Nicole Bauman also scored in double-digits for the Badgers, as she tallied 11 points in the game. Freshman Marsha Howard had an impressive freshman debut, as she tallied seven points and 11 rebounds.

    - The Wisconsin women's basketball team downed UW-Eau Claire, 69-49, on Nov. 11 in the final exhibition game of the season.

    - Nicole Bauman had a big game offensively as she started off the night firing. She went 5-for-5 in the first half alone, and picked up 15 points and four rebounds on the night.
