WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- For the first time in more than a year, the Wisconsin women's basketball team picked up a road win in Big Ten Conference play. The Badgers (7-9 overall, 3-3 Big Ten) defeated Purdue, 65-56, at Mackey Arena on Thursday night.
"It feels good and it feels good to get a road win. This is our first road win," head coach Bobbie Kelsey said. "Now we've proven to ourselves that we can come on the road and we can play well. The kids just need confidence.
"When you win and hit some baskets, and maybe everything is against you and you win, that gives you confidence that you can do something that maybe a lot people didn't think you could."

Wisconsin won a Big Ten game on the road for the first time since Jan. 3, 2014, when UW defeated Illinois, 76-64, in overtime in Champaign.
The Badgers also equaled their Big Ten win total from 2013-14 (3-13) with 12 conference games remaining.
"It's amazing when you put the ball in the basket, what you can do," Kelsey added. "Everyone contributed."
Three Badgers scored in double figures. Junior Dakota Whyte scored a team-high 14 points while junior Tessa Cichy added 13 points, one short of her career high. Junior Nicole Bauman chipped in 11 points.
UW shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field but just 20 percent (2-of-10) from 3-point range. Purdue (9-8, 2-4) shot just 31.4 percent (22-of-70) from the field and went 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from 3-point range.
Wisconsin went 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the free throw line, including 9-of-14 in the second half. The Boilermakers went to the line just 14 times, making seven.
Purdue was led by Whitney Bays with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Morrissette added 13 points.
The Boilermakers outrebounded the Badgers 45-42, ending a seven-game stretch in which UW outrebounded its opponents. Wisconsin was led by Cassie Rochel and Cichy with eight rebounds apiece. Sophomore Malayna Johnson tied her career high with six boards. Rochel also added five blocks.
"I thought Malayna got us started by being powerful and showing some guts and pounding that ball in the basket," said Kelsey. "She got people's attention."
The Badgers dished off 15 assists, including five from Bauman, while turning the ball over only 12 times.
Wisconsin led by as many as five points in the first half, including 32-27 with 41 seconds remaining. The Boilermakers hit a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to cut the lead to 32-30 heading into the break.
UW used an 8-0 run in the middle of the second half to pull away. Purdue lead 42-40 with 9:51 to play before the run. The Badgers scored eight straight to go up 48-42 with 6:43 remaining. A 3-pointer by Andreona Keys with 6:24 left ended Wisconsin's run.
