COLUMBUS, Ohio - Unable to recover from 20-straight misses from the field in the first half, the Wisconsin women's basketball team suffered an 80-47 loss to Ohio State in its final regular season game on Sunday.

The Badgers shot just 25.4 percent from the field (17-of-67) and just 16.1 percent (5-of-31) in the first half, marking the fifth-lowest single-game shooting percentage in program history.

Cassie Rochel leads Badgers with career-high 10 pts
• UW finishes 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from 3-pt range

"They (the Buckeyes) are by far on paper the most talented team in the league when they put it all together and they did (today)," Wisconsin head coach Lisa Stone said. "We are not going to win many games when our two leading scorers are 2-for-14 (Alyssa Karel) and 2-for-16 (Lin Zastrow). I know it was more than that, but we shot 16 percent to their 60 (51.7 percent) in the first half."

The Badgers nearly doubled their first half point total and recorded just four turnovers in the second half, but it was not enough as Ohio State finished the game with 51.8 percent (29-of-56) accuracy from the field to hand Wisconsin a 33-point losing margin, its largest of the season. In addition, OSU shot 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from 3-point range and held Wisconsin to just two 3-point baskets (2-of-14, 14.3 percent).

"I told our kids when we were down big in the first half, no one is quitting on this team," Stone said. "Do not look at the scoreboard. We don't care about the scoreboard right now. It's our ability to show some fight and we did. Our young kids got some experience. Cassie Rochel had a really nice game and that's good for the future. Morgan Paige was able to catch and shoot. Just the little things. There were some bright moments."

Wisconsin was led by freshman Cassie Rochel, who knocked down a career-high 10 points. Senior Alyssa Karel finished second on the team with nine points. Ohio State was led by senior Jantel Lavender's 72nd career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Taylor Wurtz and junior Anya Covington carried the Badgers off the glass with seven rebounds apiece, but it was not enough as Ohio State out-rebound Wisconsin, 42-38.

Although the Badgers threw the ball away eight times in the first half, Wisconsin regained its poise in the second half to match Ohio State with 12 total turnovers, marking the 18th time this season that the Cardinal and White has registered 15 or fewer turnovers.

The Badgers travel to the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2011 Big Ten Tournament Thursday-Sunday.
