MADISON, Wis. -- Though the temperature outside was a frigid one degree, the Wisconsin women's basketball team warmed up the Kohl Center with some hot shooting, making 10 3-pointers in a 62-41 win over Northwestern. With the win and Penn State's loss earlier in the night, the Badgers are now tied for second place in the Big Ten Conference at 9-3 and improve to 14-10 overall.

 Fast Facts
• UW moves into a tie for second place in the Big Ten
• Badgers make 10 3-pointers for third time this season.
• Wisconsin holds Wildcats to season-low 41 points

Senior guard Alyssa Karel nearly cracked the 20-point plateau for the third straight game, finishing with a game-high 19 points.  After a tough shooting first half, classmate Lin Zastrow made all six of her field goal attempts in the second half, finishing with 17 points. Sophomore guard Taylor Wurtz also chipped in with 13 points, her fifth-straight double-digit scoring effort.

With Northwestern leading 11-10 with 12:50 left in the first half, Wisconsin went on a 19-2 run to take command. Karel accounted for 10 of those points while Wurtz chipped in with a pair of 3-pointers as the Badgers turned an 11-10 deficit into a 29-13 lead with 3:49 left in the half. UW went into the break with a 33-22 lead as Karel and Wurtz combined for 23 points on perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the field, including 5-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Northwestern tried to make a run, scoring seven straight points from the end of the first half through the beginning of the second half to cut the lead to six points but Zastrow responded with her own 6-0 run, including a four-point play on which she hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key and was fouled by NU's Amy Jaeschke.  The Wildcats never got closer than eight points the rest of the way and the Badgers scored 14 of the final 16 points of the game to record their second-consecutive 20-plus point win in conference play.

UW held Northwestern to a season-low 41 points as the Wildcats shot just 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field. Jaeschke, the leading scorer in the Big Ten, was held to just 15 points, tied for her second-lowest output of the season. Her lowest was 10 points in the first meeting with Wisconsin.

The Badgers shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, including 10-of-23 (.435) from 3-point range. Over the last four games, UW is shooting 34-of-74 (.459) from beyond the arc. Wisconsin also continued its recent trend of taking care of the ball, registering just 12 turnovers.

The Badgers now have the weekend off before traveling to face Iowa in Iowa City on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
