MADISON, Wis.-The Wisconsin softball team opened their first of two games against the Iowa Hawkeyes Wednesday afternoon with a close, 1-0 loss at Goodman diamond. It was a battle of the pitchers as senior Badger Letty Olivarez tied a season high with 10 strikeouts, while Hawkeye Amanda Zust threw seven. Each pitcher only allowed two hits.

Olivarez started the game with six straight strikeouts, rendering the Hawkeyes scoreless in both the first and second innings, but the Hawkeyes broke through in the top of the third.

Olivarez got her seventh and eighth strikeouts in the top of the fourth, keeping the score 1-0, Hawkeyes.

The Badgers posed a threat in the bottom of the fourth when Shannel Blackshear got a base hit, advancing Molly Spence to third with one out. But the Hawkeyes ended the threat with a double play.

Olivarez racked up her ninth strikeout in the top of the fifth and tied her season high with 10 strikeouts in the top of the seventh.
