MADISON, Wis. -- Despite coming back from a 17-point deficit to tie the game, the Wisconsin women’s basketball team (2-3) was unable to hold back Marquette, losing in intra-state play. The Golden Eagles downed the Badgers 66-52 on Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.

Three Badgers scored in double digits, including sophomore Taylor Wurtz, who recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Tara Steinbauer and junior Jade Davis led the Badgers with 11 points apiece.
Marquette matched the trio as MU’s Angel Robinson (21 points), Sarina Simmons (15 points) and Paige Fiedorowicz (10 points) also reached double figures.
Wisconsin’s Anya Covington led all players with a career-high 12 boards, but Marquette out rebounded the Badgers, 42-40.
For the second game in a row, fouls played a role in the game decision as the Badgers were called for 22 fouls, sending Marquette to the line 23 times, making 13. Wisconsin was just 2-of-8 in free throws.
Marquette held Wisconsin scoreless for nearly eight minutes to start the game as the Badgers turned the ball over six times. The Golden Eagles led 13-0 before freshman Jada Buggs put the Badgers on the scoreboard with 12:28 left in the first half when she drove the right lane and laid the ball in.
The Badgers trailed by 17 points twice in the first half (27-10 and 29-12) but Wisconsin cut the lead to 33-22 at the halftime.
UW opened the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 33-29 off a baseline 3-pointer by freshman Morgan Paige with 18:24 to play.
The Badgers tied the game for the first time with 13:56 left in the contest when Steinbauer nailed a 3-pointer to make the score 38-38.
Wisconsin was able to stay within eight points of Marquette for nearly 10 minutes, but with 4:26 left in the game, Robinson scored to give the Golden Eagles a 56-46 advantage. Marquette outscored the Badgers 28-14 over the last 14 minutes for the win.
Wisconsin hits the road for the Concord Hilton Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday in Moraga, Calif. The Badgers open competition against BYU on Friday at 8 p.m. (CT) and conclude the weekend against tournament host, St. Mary’s on Saturday at 10 p.m. (CT). Both games will be held at McKeon Pavilion.
