UW men's crew kicks off spring season with a bang
MARIETTA, Ohio. – The Wisconsin men's rowing team competed at Marietta College for some friendly competition on Saturday, March 21.
The Badgers brought five boats to compete in the first through third varsity eights and the varsity four race on this sunny day in Ohio. Mercyhurst and Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) also participated in the regatta
The varsity eight boat finished first with a time of 5:14.9, nearly 15 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, Marietta.
The second varsity eight boat found itself with a 5:29.6, and the third varsity eight at 5:27.6. Both finished in first place.
For the second and final round of races, Wisconsin came out on top again in the varsity eight finishing in 5:21.2 for 2000 meters. Marietta came in second at 5:42.0.
For the second varsity eight final, UW finished first with a time of 5:37.7.
Wisconsin A and B out-raced Marietta and Mercyhurst in the varsity four event.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will travel to the West Coast for the Cal/Stanford Invite on April 5 and 6.

"It was a good start to the season. We took care of the job we came here to do. 1V made adjustments from first race to second race and it was a better piece, margins improved. The goal today was to make adjustments and have them work, which they did, and that is a step in the right direction. We will continue to work on building and maintaining speed and having our moves work. The younger guys did well."

"The whole team did a great job showing aggression today with limited water time this spring, and leaving it all out there. Over the next two weeks we'll work on finding our base rhythm and speed and getting confident with it."
