Badgers claw past Nittany Lions

Williams and Porter pick up double-doubles

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team clawed past Penn State, 75-68, on Sunday afternoon inside the Bryce Jordan Center.

Serah Williams led the Badgers with 23 points, marking her 24th game this season in double figures and her 13th game with 20 or more points. It was also her 13th double-double of the season.

Ronnie Porter also picked up a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 assists. Her 12-assist performance is tied for the eighth-best single-game assist total in Wisconsin's record books.

Halle Douglass had her best game of the season, scoring 17 points while shooting 5-for-9 from the field, including a season-high four three-pointers.

The Badgers shot 45.2% (28-62) from the field, 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc, and 73.7% (14-19) from the free-throw line. In contrast, the Nittany Lions shot 47.3% (26-55) from the field, 33.3% (5-15) from three, and 68.8% (11-16) from the charity stripe.

How it Happened
The Badgers came out strong, with Porter opening the scoring for Wisconsin. Williams followed with a mid-range jumper to tie the game at four. After Penn State responded with a three-pointer, Williams answered with another jumper to give the Badgers their first lead of the game, marking the first time in three games that Wisconsin had held a lead. Williams ignited, scoring 13 points in the first quarter helping the Badgers take a 24-21 advantage after the opening period.

Penn State began to claw back, cutting the lead to one, but Carter McCray responded with points in the lane. Douglass followed up with her second three-pointer of the night, tying her season high. Penn State tied the game at 35 late in the quarter, both teams added two more points, sending the game into halftime knotted at 37-37.

Williams opened the second half with a fast-break bucket to regain the lead. McCray added three points with an and-1, followed by another and-1 from Porter. The lead shifted back and forth between Wisconsin and Penn State midway through the third quarter, but a Nittany Lions turnover led to a fast-break score by Tess Myers, giving the Badgers a 51-50 edge.

Porter sank a three-pointer to open scoring in the final quarter. Douglass followed with another three-pointer, giving her a season-best total of three. Williams took a pass from Douglass to clinch her 13th game with 20+ points. Penn State closed the gap to make it a one-possession game in the final minutes, but Douglass drilled another three-pointer to reach a season-high 17 points. Despite a late push from the Nittany Lions, the Badgers held on for a 75-68 victory.
