Badgers pounce on Wildcats

McCray’s double-double, UW’s 3-point shooting leads to victory on Senior Day

MADISON, Wis. - A season-high in points and a double-double from Carter McCray led the Wisconsin women's basketball team to a 73-68 victory against Northwestern on Senior Day at the Kohl Center. McCray provided 22 points for the Badgers, in addition to 11 rebounds en route to a win on Sunday afternoon.

The Badgers shot 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the 3-point line and finished with 22 assists as a unit.

Ronnie Porter led the team in assists with eight, accounting for 10 points and six rebounds as well. Serah Williams added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tess Myers was an impressive 3-of-4 from distance—scoring all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to help the Badgers close out the game.

UW notched their fourth conference win of the season in the process.

How it Happened:

The first half provided a back-and-forth affair between the Badgers and the Wildcats, as Wisconsin went up 35-34 at the break courtesy of a fast break layup from Halle Douglass.

The Badgers held Northwestern scoreless for over four minutes in the first quarter, allowing them to get out to a 23-18 advantage after 10 minutes of play. In that time, UW went on a 10-0 run.

McCray enjoyed an efficient first half on the offensive end, accounting for 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. She also tallied four offensive rebounds in the process.

Wisconsin found some separation in the third quarter with the help of a second 10-0 run, highlighted by a 3-pointer turned in by Lily Krahn.

Myers nailed three 3-pointers to stall a late flurry from Northwestern, as the Badgers went on to defeat the Wildcats in their final game at the Kohl Center this season.

Up Next:

The Badgers will be back in action at the Kohl Center on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a conference battle against No. 3 UCLA. The game is set to tip at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
