Williams scores 36 in Wisconsin's double-overtime win over Butler

Serah Williams posted a career-high 36 points, going 13-for-26 from the field

INDIANAPOLIS, – Fueled by Serah Williams' career-high 36 points, Wisconsin women's basketball (9-2) earned a nail-biting 71-64 win over the Butler Bulldogs in double overtime on Wednesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Williams was nothing short of spectacular in the Badgers' road win, lighting up the scoreboard with a career-high 36 points on 13-of-26 shooting from the field. She grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied three blocks and a pair of steals. Her performance marked her fifth game this season with 20 or more points and her seventh double-double of the year.

Her 36 points ranked 5th all-time and were the most for a Badger since Jolene Anderson scored 42 during the 2007-08 season.

As a team, Wisconsin shot 43.0% (26-60) from the field, and 61% (17-28) from the free-throw line. On the defensive end, Wisconsin limited Butler to just 35.0% (23-66) shooting from the field and 26% (7-27) clip from long range.

How it Happened
After a back and forth first quarter, Butler took control of the game before the halftime break, building its lead up to 15 points in the middle of the second quarter. The Badgers battled back before the half going on a 6-0 run to stay in the game. Wisconsin trailed 24-33 at the intermission.

The Badgers came out of the break with a purpose. Wisconsin made key defensive stops including a block by Williams in third quarter to cut Butler's led to four. In all, Williams would score 18 second-half points to help UW keep pace with the Bulldogs.

Wisconsin's offense clicked in the fourth quarter with Natalie Leuzinger banking a game tying three-pointer with 1:58 to play. Butler drew a foul and made both free throws to retake the lead. With 17 seconds left in the game Williams converted a layup to send the game into overtime with the scored tied at 55.

After trading baskets at the beginning of overtime, the final 1:30 of the period went scoreless, sending the game to a second extra period. After the Badgers took the lead with two free throws from Carter McCray, Leuzinger took over, hitting back-to-back shots, including a clutch three-pointer, to push Wisconsin ahead 66-61. The Bulldogs had no answer and Leuzinger sealed the win with two more free throws with under 10 seconds to play, putting the game out of reach and sending the Badgers home with the hard-earned victory.
