MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team stayed undefeated at home this season, taking down Omaha 67-65.
The Badgers shot 25-for-54 (46.3%) in a game that came down to the final possession. Wisconsin improved their record to 5-1 for the season.
Junior Serah Williams secured her 26th double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Graduate Tess Myers went 5-for-10 from the three-point line for 15 points. Graduate Natalie Leuzinger rounded out the scoring with a season-high 16 points.
How it Happened
The Badger defense started strong, with Omaha shooting just 4-for-15 to start the game with 23 points in the first half.
Wisconsin started to pull away at the beginning of the second quarter. Natalie Leuzinger hit two technical foul free throws, before scoring a basket on the extended possession. A few minutes later, Halle Douglas and Tess Myers each hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 14 points.Â
Myers finished the first half with three 3-PT makes, giving the Badgers a 13-point lead at the half.
Omaha began to chip away at the lead during the third quarter, shooting 8-for-14 and cutting the deficit to just five.Â
The Mavericks made it a one-point game with just two minutes remaining after hitting five three-pointers in the fourth quarter, but Williams and Leuzinger kept the Badgers on top, combining for 12 points in the final ten minutes.
The Badgers forced an Omaha shot clock violation on the final possession of the game, sealing the Badger victory.
Notable:
- The Badgers have started their season 5-1 for the first time since 2019-20. It's the first time the team has started 5-0 at home since the 2013-14 season.
- Serah Williams, Tess Myers, and Natalie Leuzinger scored over 15 points in the game. It's the first time the Badgers had three players with 15+ points since a 12/13/23 win against St. Thomas.
- Serah Williams posted back-to-back 20+ point games for the third time in her career.
- Tess Myers recorded five rebounds in the game, the most she's recorded since transferring to UW. Her five three-pointers matched her season high against Milwaukee on 11/17/24.
- Natalie Leuzinger was two points shy from her career-high of 18 points, which came against Purdue on 2/25/24.Â
- It's the first time the Badgers had three players with 15+ points since a 12/13/23 win against St. Thomas.
