Badgers fall to Razorbacks

Jimenez tallies career-high in points

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Wisconsin competed in the first round of the Fort Myers Tip Off on Friday, Nov. 24, and lost to Arkansas, 65-62.

The Badgers were led by Cape Coral, Fla. native, D'Yanis Jimenez, who scored a team-high 17 points and added four rebounds and two assists. The freshman was 60% from field-goal range (6-10) and was a perfect 2-2 from three. 

Wisconsin started off the game with sharp shooting from three, going 5-7 behind the arc. Jimenez contributed two three-pointers in the first 10 minutes, and the Badgers got quality shots from Brooke Schramek, Ronnie Porter and Natalie Leuzinger to put them up 18-12 at the end of quarter one. Arkansas got off to an 11-0 run in the second quarter, but Sania Copeland broke the streak with a three-pointer when there was 3:42 on the clock. The sophomore ignited the offense, and Wisconsin went on a 14-2 run to end the half up 32-25.

UW's offense slowed in the third quarter, and although Jimenez reached double-digits, the Badgers were outscored 21-14, and were tied at 46 points heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Wisconsin had two opportunities to score with under six minutes of the clock, but unfortunately it could not capitalize on the opportunities, dropping the game 65-62. 

Wisconsin shot 39.3% (22-56) from the field range, and 40.9% (9-22) from 3-point range. The Badgers also shot 69.2% (9-13)  from the free-throw line. The team finished with 40 rebounds and 12 assists.

Arkansas went 30% (21-70) from field-goal range, including 29.3% (12-41)  from behind the arc. The Razorbacks were 55% (11-20) from the free-throw line. The team was led in scoring by Makayla Daniels, who accumulated 22 points (7-15 FG, 5-10 3FG, 3-6 FT) and added eight rebounds and three assists.

  • Wisconsin went on a 14-2 run in 3:42 minutes of play to close out the first half.

  • In her homecoming game, Cape Coral, Fla. native, D'Yanis Jimenez scored a career-high 17 points (6-10 FG, 2-2 3FG, 3-4 FT) and led the Badgers in scoring.

  • Ronnie Porter led the Badgers in rebounds with 10 rebounds, and added eight points, including two threes.

Wisconsin will play the loser of the Marquette and Boston College game, scheduled to be played today, Nov. 24 at 3:30 p.m. Wisconsin will play in its second game of the Fort Myers Tip Off tomorrow, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. inside Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
