NASSAU, Bahamas- In a heartbreaking loss, Wisconsin fell to Arkansas at the 2019 Bahamas Hoopfest on Saturday. The final score was 64-68.
The Badgers held strong through the first half, leading 31-29 against the No. 25 ranked Razorbacks. The game started with a 10-0 run for the Badgers. Coming into the second half, the team held their lead until near the end of the fourth quarter. They rallied to close a five-point deficit but fell just short.
Wisconsin topped Arkansas in rebounds, 50-33 and blocks, 5-0.
Abby Laszewski stepped up to lead once again, recording a double-double tonight with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Two other Badgers,
Imani Lewis and
Kendra Van Leeuwen, also scored in the double digits with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Suzanne Gilreath is still on a hunt for the three-pointers made and three-pointers attempted records. Going 2-7 from behind the arc on Saturday night, Gilreath now has a career record of 183-537. She has passed Stephanie Rich (182) to take over sixth place for made three-pointers.
Senior
Kendra Van Leeuwen entered Wisconsin's record book after dishing out two assists on Saturday and five on Friday, she is tied for 10th place with Faith Johnson with 362 career assists.
Laszewski, Lewis and freshman Sidney Hilliard were all named to the all-tournament team.
The Razorbacks were led by Chelsea Dungee who had 27 points, followed by Amber Ramirez with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Badgers will be headed to Atlanta, Ga for their next game to face Georgia Tech for the B1G/ACC Challenge on Thurs. Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
