MADISON, Wis. -- In a night that celebrates one of Wisconsin's most impressive classes to date, perennial powerhouse Maryland was too much for the Badgers on Friday night at the McClimon Complex. Wisconsin suffered a 5-4 loss to the No. 3 Terrapins which marks the end of the Badger's impressive 20-game unbeaten streak at home.Â
Wisconsin (7-3-3 overall, 3-2-1 Big Ten) put the first goal on the board from senior
Mark Segbers. A beautiful advance from junior Enda O'Neil found the streaking Segbers through the congested box. Segbers one-touched the ball into the side of the Terrapin's net for the first score.Â
After back-to-back Maryland (10-0-3, 5-0-2) goals, the Badgers found themselves down one and in need of a response. Senior
Tom Barlow was the one to answer the call. Barlow played fellow senior
Chris Mueller's corner kick perfectly, guiding the ball with his neatly into the bottom corner of the Maryland net.Â
But Maryland's attack was just too strong, as the Terrapins out-scored the Badgers 3-2 in the second half.Â
Mueller scored his seventh goal of the year with under three minutes remaining to make it 5-3 in the Terps' favor. With just forty seconds remaining,
Nikola Atlija scored his first goal of the season bringing the final score to 5-4.Â
Wisconsin outshot Maryland 18-17 as well as 10-8 in shots on goal. The Badgers annihilated the Terps in corners as well, 15-2.Â
Up Next: Wisconsin will travel to Bloomington, Indiana to face the Hoosiers on Saturday night.Â
