2016: Started all 19 games in net for the Badgers… recorded six shutouts and stifled all competition with a dominant .72 goals against average … season-high seven saves on the year against Indiana (11/11) in the Big Ten tournament … recorded 64 total saves and had an 82.1 percent save percentage
High School: Schilling attended Heinrich Heine Gymnasium in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He played for TuS Mechtersheim, DJK SV Phönix Schifferstadt and TSG Kaiserslautern.
Personal: His parents are Klaus and Monika Schilling and he has two brothers, Dennis and Felix, and one sister, Eva. He intends to study consumer behavior and family economics. Schilling also competed in European handball and baseball.
Head coach John Trask on Schilling: “Philipp is a very mature player who will be attending graduate school here at Wisconsin. Philipp’s background and training in Germany has been excellent and we look forward to him competing with our other keepers this coming fall.”
Associate head coach Keith Tiemeyer on Schilling: “Philipp will bring added maturity and experience to our team and our GK corps as he has already achieved his undergraduate degree in Germany. He has been very successful at the club level in Germany, recently winning a league championship this past spring.”
Schilling on why he chose Wisconsin: “I chose Wisconsin, because I can combine a high level in education with a high level in sports,” Schilling said. “It is the perfect mixture for me. From the very first time I spoke to Coach Trask and Coach Tiemeyer, I realized that they know exactly what they are talking about due to their expertise and experience.
“Wisconsin has one of the best athletic departments in the country, which makes it more challenging, but also much more interesting for me. I am looking forward to this great academic and athletic opportunity.”
