COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- A late comeback by the Wisconsin women's basketball team was not enough as the Badgers fell at No. 6 Maryland, 83-77, on Thursday night.

Maryland led by as many as 21 points twice in the fourth quarter, including 76-55 with 4:56 remaining in the game. Wisconsin responded with a 12-0 run, cutting the score to 76-67 with 2:35 to go. The Badgers fought hard, bringing the score to a six-point margin, but Wisconsin ultimately ran out of time, falling to Maryland by six.

The Badgers (7-20, 3-14 Big Ten) started off the game strong as they hit their first four shots to go up 10-5 with 6:08 to play in the first period. Wisconsin went on a 6-0 run to further its lead and sit atop the Terrapins, 22-13, with 43 seconds left to go in the first. A layup by Maryland (26-3, 15-2 Big Ten) left the score 22-15 in favor of UW at the end of the first.

The Terrapins began the second quarter with a 10-0 run to give them their first lead of the game (25-22) with 6:20 remaining in the second. The Badgers took their final lead of the game, 32-30, with a little under two minutes left to go in the second. Maryland capitalized on a successful scoring offense and effective defense, as they outscored UW 21-10 in the second quarter.

On another 10-0 run during the third quarter, Maryland was able to extend its lead to 55-44 with 4:41 left to go. The Badgers were able to respond before the Terrapins went on a 5-0 run, furthering their lead to 60-48 with just under two minutes remaining. Nicole Bauman finished the third shooting a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 63-51 in Maryland's favor.

Bauman had team-high honors with 23 points as she shot 8-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. Michala Johnson added 18 points on 8-of-14 from the field and Dakota Whyte chipped in 13 points.

Maryland was led by Shatori Walker-Kimbrough with 27 points.

The Terrapins shot 47.0 percent (31-of-66) from the field, including 11-of-20 (55.0 percent) from 3-point range. The Badgers hit 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field, including 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from deep.

Wisconsin was outrebounded 39-30, led by seven boards from Avyanna Young. Both Wisconsin and Maryland had 13 turnovers while UW had 14 assists and Maryland with 25.

The Badgers will finish their regular season at Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.
