SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- In a game of inches, the Badgers ended up on the wrong side of a one-run game, falling to Oklahoma State, 1-0, at the Gaucho Classic II in Santa Barbara, Calif., Sunday morning.

Wisconsin (11-9) led off the game with a pair of singles off of OSU starting pitcher, Kat Espinosa. But Espinosa buckled down and forced a pop out and a pair of strike outs to end Wisconsin’s scoring threat.
Oklahoma State (14-10) started off the bottom of the inning with a single and moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt before UW starting pitcher, Cassandra Darrah, ended the Cowgirls’ scoring threat with a strike out and fly out.
The game continued on at a hurried pace, with both pitchers controlling the tempo until the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, OSU’s Chelsea Garcia singled to left field and stole second before scoring on a single to left field, giving the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead.
Both pitchers continued to dominate the game and the Badgers were unable to find a way past Espinosa.
Darrah pitched six complete innings, allowing just one run on four hits. She struck out six and walked three. Espinosa pitched seven complete innings for the Cowgirls, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out eight UW batters.
Wisconsin returns home to the Midwest to kick off the Big Ten season, Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25 at Iowa. Game time on Saturday is set for 1 and 3 p.m., while Sunday’s game kicks off at 2 p.m.
