ORLANDO, Fla. -- With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, the Wisconsin softball team found itself with the opportunity to even the score against Florida State. A key strike out by the Seminoles ended the inning and ruined the Badgers’ best scoring opportunity of the game as Wisconsin fell, 2-1, to No. 25 Florida State Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Citrus Classic Spring College Games in Orlando, Fla.

Florida State (15-0) put together one key inning – the second - to pick up the win. The Seminoles put together two hits and a sacrifice fly to score two runs and take a 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin (4-5) picked up its first hits of the game in the third inning with a pair of back-to-back singles, knocking FSU starting pitcher, Jessica Nori, out of the game.
Shannel Blackshear led off the fourth inning with a single and key base running by pinch runner Kendra Wright put the Badgers in scoring position. Wright advanced to third on a base hit by Maria Van Abel, setting up Wisconsin’s first run of the game. A bunt single down the first base line by Maggie Strange scored Wright from third and cut the Seminole’s lead in half.
A double steal by Van Abel and Strange followed by a walk by Mary Massei loaded the bases for the Badgers. Karla Powell was called into the game to pinch hit and a key strikeout by FSU’s Bailey Schinella ended Wisconsin’s scoring threat.
UW starting pitcher Meghan McIntosh shut down Florida State in the final three innings, allowing no hits, but the Badgers couldn’t find a way to score.
McIntosh pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three. Three Seminole pitchers combined for seven innings, holding the Badgers to one run on four hits. Wisconsin stranded seven runners and neither team committed an error.
Wisconsin continues action on the road next weekend when it travels to Charleston, S.C., for the Charleston Southern Tournament, March 2-3.
