Wisconsin vs. Northwestern
Post-game Quotes
Sept. 23, 2011
Coach Pete Waite:
On how the team started the Big Ten season tonight:
“I’m really pleased with the way we played. That Northwestern team has some good talent on it and I think even though we wavered at times, we held strong and pulled through in each of the situations. It was good to see Bailey Reshel out there. [Tonight] was the first time she’s had to start for us this year and she had good numbers and had a nice solo block out there. Overall, it was a nice team effort.”
On being down in certain situations and rallying:
“I think they’re really developing good—a great attitude of scrambling and battling for every play and staying composed—that’s the biggest thing. If you can be composed and know that you can trust your teammates and score on the next point, you’re going to be in the game with anybody.”
On the great play from the middle attack, specifically Alexis Mitchell:
“That’s important that we have strong middle attack and Alexis really did well. The passing was strong enough to get her the ball—it was obviously a nice job finding her.
I think overall as you look at the stats it was good balance offensively. I’m pleased that we outdug them, outblocked them, (had) a higher hitting percentage and came out with the win in three.”
Alexis Mitchell
On how fun it was opening Big Ten season with a 3-0 sweep:
“It was awesome. We definitely went over it a lot in practice this week—how we wanted to defend our home court and play hard. We really played off of our fans tonight.
We knew Northwestern was a good team, they had some really good hitters, but we definitely stuck to our game plan. We played hard and we played with a lot of intensity. It was really exciting and a really good atmosphere to play in.”
On her personal performance and the passes being there tonight:
“I’ve been working on my timing with the setters a lot and we really pulled it off tonight. I was getting up early and was able to be one-on-one with Northwestern’s block a lot of the time so it really made it easy for me. It was a lot of fun.”
