San Diego, Calif.--On the second day of the San Diego Classic, Wisconsin fell to Buffalo University 8-4 at the USD softball complex Saturday morning. Although the Badgers led 4-0 at the top of the fifth, Buffalo scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.

Freshman Shannel Blackshear smacked a line drive up the middle for a single in the first inning. Up next, freshman Molly Spence nailed her second home run of the season to deep left, putting the Badgers up 2-0.

After senior Letty Olivarez struck out the side in the bottom of the third, the Badgers notched two more runs in the third.

Leading off for Wisconsin, junior Jennifer Kruger walked. Sophomore Jordan Skinner then popped out to second, but freshman Shannel Blackshear then doubled to deep center. Krueger showed off her speed on Blackshear's hit, reaching home from first and making the score 3-0 Badgers.

Spence then reached first on fielder's choice, advancing Blackshear who ran into the second baseman and was ruled out on obstruction. Spence advanced to second on a wild pitch with freshman Whitney Massey at the plate. 

Massey then smacked a curving triple to left center, notching an RBI as Spence made it home, making it 4-0 Wisconsin.
The Badgers' four runs were not enough as Buffalo took the lead scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Buffalo's Andi Saucier was walked and Alexandra Bejarano then doubled with a deep hit to left, sending Saucier home for Buffalo's first run. Diaz then reached first on an error by Massey. Dominique Carcone came in as pinch runner, and stole second. Candice Sheehan then singled to right, bringing Bejarano home, and making it 4-2 Wisconsin.

Freshman Megan Mcintosh then came in to pitch for the Badgers. Kristin Waldron hit it to right center making it to third and sending Carcone and Sheehan home. With the score tied at 4-4, Franich bunted, making it to first and scoring Waldron to take the lead, 5-4.

Buffalo scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Mcintosh was credited with the loss and is now 1-2 on the season.

The Badgers are now 1-2 on the tournament, and will continue game action Saturday afternoon at 6:30 p.m. (CT) against San Diego State. Fans can follow along on game tracker at the San Diego Classic website.
