LINCOLN, Neb.—Wisconsin narrowly fell to Nebraska, 4-3, in the second game of a double-header in Lincoln, Neb., Wednesday evening. Junior Ashley Hanewich slammed a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game 3-3, but Nebraska scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth for the win.
Hanewich tied Nebraska’s 3-0 lead when she hit her second home run of the year in the top of the fourth. The hit to left field hit off the top of the left field wall and bounced over to knot the score up. Scoring on the play were freshman Abby Gregory, who was pinch-running for fellow freshman Shannel Blackshear, and senior Letty Olivarez, who singled to left field in her at-bat.
The Badgers three runs were not enough as Nebraska added one run to their tally in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single.
The first two innings passed without a run, but the Badgers were unable to stop the Cornhuskers in the bottom of the third. Nebraska loaded the bases and Ashley Guile hit a bases-clearing double to give the Cornhuskers the early lead.
The Badgers will open conference action in a two-game, two-day series against Ohio State next weekend (Mar. 27 & 28) in Columbus, Ohio. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m. (CT).
