Kelly Hughes joined the Badgers’ as the graduate assistant in August of 2019.
 
Hughes is Boston College’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made – for men or women - with 322, scoring 1,550 points for her career, which ranks seventh. The wing added 648 rebounds for her career, only the ninth Eagle to record more than 1,000 points and 600 rebounds.
 
“Kelly joins us after a remarkable career at Boston College and professional championship pedigree overseas,” Tsipis said. “She will be a great mentor to our student-athletes on and off the court. Kelly has an outstanding basketball mind and will make a great impact on our program. Her ability to get the most out of her ability will help transfer over to our perimeter players.  Kelly will pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis.”
 
Hughes averaged 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for her career, while shooting .407 percent from the field. She also shot 36.8 percent from behind the arc. Hughes played in 121 games in her four years, starting 98. She earned ACC All-Academic honors in 2014-15 and was a two-time ACC Rookie of the Week.
 
“I'm excited to be here in Madison and very thankful to Coach Tsipis and his staff for the opportunity to be a part of the Badger women's basketball family,” said Hughes. “I'm looking forward to working with the players as they continue to make noise in the Big Ten and beyond and I'm eager to learn from the coaching staff as I pursue a career in college coaching.”
 
Hughes continued her professional career in Germany, playing two years with USC Eisvogel in Freiburg.

A native of Port Pleasant, New Jersey, Hughes is a 2017 graduate of Boston College with a degree in marketing. She will pursue her master's degree in educational leadership and policy analysis with an emphasis in athletic administration.
