UW reaches 30-win mark for second straight season
Sophomore Kendra Lewis broke out in a big way from the left side of the plate, going 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs—racking up a team-best four RBI en route to UW's sixth conference series win of the year.Â
The first five batters of the game reached base for the Badgers (30-17, 14-9 B1G), as senior Emily Bojan led off the game with a home run. After a double from junior Hilary Blomberg and a walk from redshirt freshman Jaclyn Showalter, Lewis launched a three-run blast to make it 4-0.Â
UW went on to tally one more run in the process, as freshman pinch runner Sydney Spear utilized her speed to score a wild pitch.Â
The Badgers added a run apiece in both the second and third inning, as sophomore Hannah Conger barreled a double to left field. The Scarlet Knights (26-27, 5-18) answered with a run of their own in the third, as Wisconsin took a 7-1 advantage in the fourth.Â
The Scarlet Knights earned three runs in the top half of the fourth, and one more in the fifth frame via a solo home run from Siera Hoekstra—cutting the deficit to 7-5.Â
In the sixth, UW provided one final punch—plating three more runs with the help of the long ball. Showalter hit her second home run in as many days, driving in two. After a pitching change, Lewis wasted no time and barreled her second deep shot of the game—joining Blomberg as the only Badger to hit two in a game this year.Â
With a 10-5 advantage, Lewis closed out Rutgers in the circle and notched UW's third consecutive Big Ten series win.Â
