Badgers continue strong finish to conference play
MADISON, Wis. – Despite a weather delay, Wisconsin women's tennis powered through a tough match against Nebraska to earn a 4-1 victory.
Maria Sholokhova and Ekaterina Ivanova continued to prove themselves at the No. 1 doubles spot, earning a strong 6-1 ranked win over No. 39 Raidt/Spencer to remain undefeated this season. Tianna Rangan and Kaede Usui battled back from a 2-4 deficit to force a tiebreak, where the Badger duo came out on top to clinch the doubles point.
Ekaterina Ivanova opened singles play with a dominant first set, earning a bagel in just about 25 minutes. She followed it up with a 6-1 second set to secure her match. Kaede Usui added another point for Wisconsin with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set win, improving to 8-4 on the season.
In a battle of the Marias, Maria Sholokhova faced a tough challenge against Maria Tarnova. The first set went to a tiebreak, which Sholokhova powered through, before the two traded breaks in the second. Sholokhova ultimately secured the decisive break and closed out the set, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Badgers.
