Badgers set to face Nebraska, Iowa to finish conference play
MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's tennis will wrap up its regular season at Nielsen Tennis Stadium this weekend. The Badgers will first take on Nebraska on Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m., followed by Iowa on Sunday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m.
1. Honoring Our Senior
Senior Maria Sholokhova has made an indelible mark on the Wisconsin women's tennis program. In her junior year, Sholokhova became the first Badger to win the ITA Women's Singles All-American Championship title. That same year, she and doubles partner Alina Mukhotova captured the ITA Midwest Regional doubles title.
This season, Sholokhova continued to prove her dominance on the court alongside Lucie Urbanova, winning the ITA Doubles All-American Championship. Throughout her career, she has compiled a 63-18 (.778) record, primarily competing at the No. 1 singles position. Sholokhova will be honored prior to Sunday's match against Iowa.
2. Scouting the HuskersÂ
Nebraska enters the weekend with a 15-6 overall record and is currently riding a three-match win streak. The Huskers most recently defeated Iowa, 4-1, securing the doubles point before adding three singles victories. Sophomore Catherina Gagon leads the team with a 9-3 record in singles play this season. Nebraska will look to carry its momentum into Madison.
3. Scouting the HawkeyesÂ
No. 46 Iowa comes into the weekend following losses to Nebraska and Ohio State. The Hawkeyes hold a 1-12 conference record and are 4-4 on the road this season. Mia Mack leads the lineup at No. 1 singles, holding a 15-3 record and a No. 67 national ranking.
