No. 33 Wisconsin drops a match to No. 2 Ohio State
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 33 Wisconsin men's tennis team (16-6, 7-5 Big Ten) dropped a match to No. 2 Ohio State (26-3, 11-1 Big Ten), 4-1 on Friday night. The Badgers were bested by Ohio State's three ranked duos in doubles play and suffered losses at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Michael Minasyan earned Wisconsin's lone point at No. 2 singles.
The Buckeyes earned a competitive doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Wisconsin's Ferdinand Kloesters and Minasyan held their own at No. 1, with their match going unfinished against the No. 3 nationally ranked OSU duo.
Singles play was highlighted by senior Michael Minasyan earning a dominant straight set victory at No. 2 singles. Minasyan defeated No. 24 ranked Jack Anthrop 6-2, 6-1 to put Wisconsin on the board.
Ohio State bounced back quickly, earning straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Patrik Meszaros forced a third set against No. 12 ranked Aidan Kim at No. 1 singles, but the match was left unfinished at 2-6, 6-3, 5-3. The Buckeyes clinched the match with a win at No. 6 singles.
Wisconsin's record is 16-6 on the season and 7-5 in conference play. They have one regular season match remaining before the Big Ten Championships in Ojai, Calif., which runs from April 22-25.
