Wisconsin closes out competition Big Ten Individual Championships
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the Big Ten Individual Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan, highlighted by a runner-up finish for Edouard Aubert and Matthew Fullerton in doubles play.
Aubert and Fullerton put together an impressive 4-1 record in the doubles draw to advance to the finals. The duo opened with a 6-4 victory over Nebraska's Champigneulle and Lassila before defeating Ohio State's Palavestra and Nebraska's Ward, 6-1, in the Round of 16.
The duo then earned a pair of 6-3 wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal to advance to the championship match, but ultimately fell, 6-4, to Ohio State's Lilov and Petak.
In singles play, three Badgers in Aubert, Fullerton and Tomas Zlatohlavek reached the Round of 16. Aubert defeated his Indiana opponent in straight sets, as Fullerton and Zlatohlavek won their 10-point tiebreak sets to defeat their opponent in three sets.
Six Badgers advanced out of the opening round, including Sachiv Kumar and Jens Holger Nissen, who both earned straight-sets victories as Collin Beduhn battled back from a first-set loss to advance to the Round of 32. Zlatohlavek and Aubert received first-round byes.
Aubert and Fullerton each posted a 6-3 record across singles and doubles play over the weekend, including matches played in the singles consolation draw.
Up Next: Ferdinand Kloesters and Patrik Meszaros take on singles and doubles action at the ITA Central Sectionals in Waco, Texas, on Nov. 5-9.
