No. 29 Wisconsin starts 1-1 in Big Ten play after loss at Michigan State
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 29 Wisconsin men's tennis team fell on Sunday to Michigan State on the road, 5-2. Wisconsin (10-2, 1-1 Big Ten) wrapped up a two-match Michigan road trip and return to Madison for a pair of Big Ten home matches next weekend in Madison.
Michigan State jumped out to an early lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn a 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Wisconsin's Sachiv Kumar cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot. Kumar, a Novi, Michigan native, impressed in his return to his home state.
At No. 3, Edouard Aubert outlasted his Michigan State challenger with a 1-6, 7-6, 10-8 win. Wisconsin tallied its pair of points behind the two singles victories.
In other action, Tomas Zlatohlavek forced a third set with a 6-4 victory in set two after dropping the first. He eventually fell in the third set, dropping the match 2-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Wisconsin now owns a 1-1 Big Ten record after splitting matches in the first weekend of conference action.
Up Next: The Badgers host Northwestern and Illinois next weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. First serve for Friday's match against Northwestern is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
