Badgers secure historic victory at Nielsen Tennis Stadium
MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's tennis made program history Friday evening, defeating No. 6 UCLA at Nielsen Tennis Stadium for the highest-ranked win in program history.
Wisconsin set the tone early in doubles play, as the Badgers secured the opening point with strong performances across the lineup. The No. 3 pair of Tianna Rangan and Kaja Jacobson rolled past their opponents, while senior Maria Sholokhova and freshman Kaede Usui followed with a decisive win to clinch the doubles point.
The Badgers carried that momentum into singles play. Ekaterina Ivanova and Tianna Rangan each earned straight-set victories, taking their opening sets 6-2 and 6-3 before closing out their matches to add two more points to the Wisconsin total.
The deciding moment came from Kaede Usui at the bottom of the lineup. After dropping the first set 6-1, Usui battled back to claim the second set 6-3 and force a third. In a tightly contested final set, Usui secured a crucial break and held serve to clinch the match and seal the historic victory for Wisconsin.
