Redshirt freshman Drew Sacia makes first career start
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's golf team tees off its second tournament of the spring season Friday at the Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern, at the Forest Heights Country Club in Stateboro, Georgia.Â
Five Badgers will start in the lineup: Jacob Beckman, Spencer Turtz, Jason Shwartz, Charles Erlandson and Drew Sacia. True freshman Vijay Kumar will compete individually.Â

LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin placed 14th in the season-opening Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande. UW shot -7 in the tournament, propelled by an eight-under second-round outing. Jason Shwartz led the way, while Spencer Turtz and Jacob Beckman all finished in the top half of the field.Â
JASON'S JOURNEY: Shwartz led the Badgers in 14th at -9 in Puerto Rico. He posted two sub-70 rounds, including a 69 (-3) in the final round. Making his first career start since 2024, he came out on fire with a first-round 68 (-4) He backed it up with a 70 in Round 2, before dropping three back-nine birdies in Round 3 to climb eight spots on the leaderboard. He'll tee off at 8:03 a.m. CT on Friday.
SACIA STARTS: Redshirt freshman Drew Sacia will make his first career start in the UW lineup this week. The Georgia native returns to his home state after firing even during UW's four qualifying rounds, including a -3, 69, on the final day. Sacia had a strong summer before this school year, being a semifinalist at the Wisconsin Four-Ball Championships. He finished 15th at the Golden Isles Invitational, while placing 40th at the Eastern Amateur.Â
BACK IN THE LINEUP: Redshirt sophomore Charles Erlandson returns to the UW lineup after competing individually at Grand Reserve. He was UW's second-highest finisher at the Puerto Rico Classic, coming in at 48th. The Verona native finished -2, earning the third-most pars in the field. His bogey-free, 69, on Wednesday was key to a successful week. Erlandson had a consistent fall season, starting in all five events. He highlighted the campaign with a 38th-place finish at the Bryson Invitational, going even-par.Â
FAMILIAR TERRITORY: The Badgers will tee off in the Schenkel for the fifth-straight season on Friday. They took 9th last season, as now sophomore William Harned led the way in 38th-place. Senior Spencer Turtz took 44th at +5, while Erlandson was +6 and in 52nd-place.Â
