Wisconsin starts Big Tens strong
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 15 Wisconsin women's swim and dive teams wrapped up day one of competition at Big Ten Championships, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay.
How it happened:
In the 200 medley relay, Maggie Wanezek, Brooke Corrigan, Hailey Tierney and Abby Wanezek all set personal bests in their leg to help the team to a runner-up finish. The four combined for a time of 1:34.78, marking a second-best all-time finish at UW.
The divers competed in an exhibition diving event during the intermission before swimming resumed with the 800 free relay. Wisconsin closed out the night as the Wanezek sisters, Izzy Enz and Blair Stoneburg clocked a fifth-place finish in the 800 free relay. Abby Wanezek led off with a 1:43.82 split to help the team to a sixth-best all-time finish at UW.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 1-meter diving. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
