Junior guard comes to Wisconsin from NC State
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team added junior guard Laci Steele, a transfer from NC State, head coach Robin Pingeton announced Monday.
Steele brings two years of ACC experience to Madison. As a sophomore in 2024-25, she appeared in 23 games for NC State, averaging 1.7 points per game and helping the Wolfpack reach the ACC Championship game and the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Her freshman year was a strong debut, as she played in 32 games and helped NC State capture the ACC Tournament title and reach the NCAA Final Four. Steele averaged 3.4 points in 11.8 minutes per game, hit 20 three-pointers, and shot 80% from the free throw line. She posted four double-digit scoring games, including a career-best 13 points against Virginia.
"I'm thrilled to join the Badger family and bring my passion for the game to Wisconsin," said Steele. "Let's build something special together in Madison!"
A native of Edmond, Oklahoma, Steele was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school. She was ranked No. 56 in the Class of 2023 by ESPN and was a McDonald's All-American nominee. Steele led Edmond North High School to back-to-back state championships and graduated as the school's all-time leader in points and steals. She earned numerous state player of the year honors and made her mark on the Nike EYBL circuit.
