MADISON, Wis. ā Three different Badgers lit the lamp to lead the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Bemidji State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs at LaBahn Arena on Friday.
Kelly Gorbatenko, Claire Enright and Lacey Eden all found the back of the net for the Badgers (32-1-2, 26ā1-2-1-0-1 WCHA). Caroline Harvey put together two assists for her 13th multi-point game of the season and has now recorded six points against Bemidji State (6-29-1, 4-25-0) this season.
Gorbatenko opened the scoring with just 38 seconds remaining in the first period. Harvey sent a pass across the slot past Beaver defenders that went off Maggie Scannell to Gorbatenko, who one-timed the puck past Bemidji State netminder Kaitlin Groess. Wisconsin took its 1-0 lead into the first intermission.Ā
Wisconsin doubled its lead on a delayed penalty. The Badgers got the extra attacker out in place of Ava McNaughton and Grace Bickett found Enright, who beat Groess glove-side. With the assist, Bickett recorded her first collegiate point. Eden gave the Badgers a 3-0 advantage to end the second period as she tipped a shot into the back of the net off an initial shot from Harvey.
Neither team scored in the third period to secure a 3-0 Badger victory.Ā
McNaughton made 12 saves to earn her 30th win and eighth shutout of the season. Her eight shutouts rank second in the country this year.Ā

Wisconsin Head Coach Mark Johnson
On creating time with the puck:
"Second period was good. A lot of puck possession, a lot of opportunities. The big thing is not getting frustrated ā stick to what you're doing and hopefully, eventually, one goes in. Some nights, that may not be true, and other nights, eventually something goes in. When they're blocking shots and really packing it in and making it hard to get pucks to the net, then the transition part becomes a little bit more important."
On Caroline Harvey:
"She's got good feet and good agility. She can stop on a dime and change directions. She's a handful to cover, so if you're responsible for her, it's going to be challenging."
On getting the win tonight:
"You just gotta keep preaching. You play the game the right way and don't care what the score is. You have to keep doing all the little things that make you hard to play against. For the most part, we did a pretty good job there."
Junior Forward Claire Enright
On how playoffs are a whole different game:
"The playoffs are a whole different type of season. I mean, we're 1-0 and they're 0-1. The regular season doesn't even matter anymore, so we just take it with a grain of salt and move on to the game tomorrow. They have nothing to lose, so they're going to put their hearts and everything out there tomorrow and we can't just let them play all over us, we have to play all over them."
Sophomore Kelly Gorbatenko
On Caroline Harvey having an impact on the team:
"It's really nice playing on her team, you know, going against her practice is not always fun, but having her on our side, you just gotta find an open patch of ice and she'll find you."
