Badgers’ late push falls short in loss to Oregon

Despite a strong fourth-quarter rally, the Badgers couldn’t overcome the Ducks' offense

EUGENE, Ore. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team fell to the Oregon Ducks 68-52 in the first Big Ten matchup of 2025.

Natalie Leuzinger led the Badgers in scoring with 12 points, followed by Carter McCray with 9.

Wisconsin shot 40.0% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc, and 75.0% from the free-throw line. Oregon was shooting 49.0% overall, 46.2% from three-point range, and 80.0% from the charity stripe.

Despite the loss, the Badgers out-rebounded the Ducks 31-21 and nearly doubled Oregon in bench points, 23-14.

How it Happened

Oregon started the game strong, opening with a 6-0 run before Halle Douglass knocked down a wide-open three-pointer to get the Badgers on the board. Midway through the first quarter, Serah Williams brought Wisconsin within one point with a smooth step-back jumper. However, Oregon maintained control and closed the quarter with a 17-12 lead.

In the second quarter, the Ducks' defensive pressure disrupted Wisconsin's rhythm, forcing turnovers and halting any offensive momentum. McCray provided a spark late in the quarter with an and-one, contributing to her six points in the period. Despite her efforts, the Ducks capitalized on their opportunities and extended their lead to 37-23 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Oregon maintained their dominance, starting the third quarter with a 7-2 run. Tess Myers broke the Ducks' streak with a three-pointer, sparking a brief scoring drought for Oregon. Late in the quarter, Lily Krahn drained a critical three-pointer for the Badgers, but Oregon continued to find answers and entered the fourth quarter leading 58-35.

In the final quarter, the Badgers found a rhythm. Leuzinger opened with a three-pointer off a turnover, igniting a 7-0 run for Wisconsin. D'Yanis Jimenez added two points off another Oregon turnover as the Badgers outscored the Ducks 17-10 in the final frame. While Wisconsin showed resilience, the early deficit proved too large to overcome.
