Wisconsin heads to Minnesota for second game with the Golden Gophers
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Golden Gophers:
1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: The Badgers hold a 10-9 overall record and a 1-7 mark in conference play, having battled some of the toughest opponents in college basketball. Serah Williams continues to shine, standing out as one of the two players nationally averaging a double-double with 18.7 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
The team has also made strides in three-point shooting, with Lily Krahn delivering back-to-back standout performances, scoring 16 points against both Maryland and Ohio State.
2. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-4, 6-2 Big Ten), 91-60, on Monday, Jan. 20, at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Williams continued her strong season with an impressive 20-point, 8-rebound performance, her ninth game this season scoring 20 or more points. Wisconsin finished the game shooting 37.9% (25-66) from the field, 17.6% (3-17) from three-point range, and 63.6% (7-11) at the free-throw line.
3. SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: Minnesota enters the matchup with a 5-3 record in conference play, most recently dropping to No. 24 Michigan at home. The Golden Gophers are outscoring opponents by a 21.6 margin and are led by Amaya Battle, who is averaging 11.4 points per game.
4. HISTORY WITH MINNESOTA: The Golden Gophers hold the all-time series lead at 48-40, with the most recent game occurring earlier this season. Minnesota claimed the 59-50 on New Year's Eve. This storied rivalry dates back to 1974, when Wisconsin faced Minnesota in Iowa City and emerged with a 55-45 win. The Badgers later dominated the series with a nine-game winning streak from 1998 to 2001.
5. LOOKING AHEAD: The Badgers return to the Kohl Center on Wednesday, Jan. 29, to host No. 24 Michigan at 6:30 p.m. in a Power of Us game. Fans can tune in live on B1G+ or catch the broadcast on 1070 AM and the iHeartRadio app.
